Rosalie Vendette

Social Responsability

Rosalie Vendette is a Responsible Investment Senior Advisor and supports Desjardins Global Asset Management (DGAM) in developing and implementing RI strategies. She has worked in responsible investing for over 13 years. Rosalie is also active within a number of organizations related to her field of expertise. Notably, she is involved in the Québec PRI Network and chairs its events committee. She is also a member of Finance Montreal’ Working Group on Responsible Investment. She was a member of the Canadian National Advisory Board of the G8 Taskforce on Social Impact Investing and a member of the board of directors of the Social Investment Organization (SIO) in 2008-2009 and 2012-2013. Rosalie holds a bachelor degree in management and marketing from HEC-Montreal and a master in applied ethics at Sherbrooke’s University. She has successfully completed the Sustainable Investment Professional Certification (SIPC) offered by the John Molson School of Business at Concordia’s University.

Dr. Heather Haveman

Organizational Theory

Heather A. Haveman is Professor of Sociology and Business at the University of California, Berkeley. She received a BA in history and an MBA in management and finance from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Organizational Behavior and Industrial Relations from UC Berkeley. Before coming to Berkeley in 2006, she taught at Duke (1990-94), Cornell (1994-99), and Columbia (1998-2007). When she’s not moving around North America, she studies how organizations, industries, and employees’ careers evolve, and the impact of organizations on their employees and society at large. Her work combines insights from institutionalism, organizational demography, social movements, economic geography, micro economics, and social history. Her published studies have investigated California thrifts (1872-1928 and 1960s-1990s), Iowa telephone companies (1900-1917), Manhattan hotels (1898-1990), California hospitals (1978-1991), U.S. electric power plants (1980-1992), U.S. wineries (1940s-1990s), American magazines (1741-1860), American law-school professors, and Chinese listed firms (1992-2007). These studies have appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, the American Sociological Review, the American Journal of Sociology, the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, the Journal of Business Venturing, Management and Organization Review, Organization Science, Poetics, Research in the Sociology of Organizations, Research in the Sociology of Work, and Sociological Science, as well as in several edited books. Her book, Magazines and the Making of America: Modernization, Community, and Print Culture 1741-1860, was published by Princeton University Press in 2015. Her current research involves American magazines, U.S. wineries, American law-school professors, Chinese firms, and state-legal marijuana markets.

Dr. Neil Fligstein

Neil Fligstein is the Class of 1939 Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of California. He is also the Director of the Center of Culture, Organization, and Politics at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment at the University of California. He is the author of numerous papers and books including The Transformation of Corporate Control (Harvard, 1993), The Architecture of Markets: An Economic Sociology of 21st Century Capitalist Societies (Princeton, 2001), Euroclash: The European Union, European Identity, and the Future of Europe (Oxford, 2008), and A Theory of Fields (with Doug McAdam, Oxford, 2012). He has written extensively in the fields of economic sociology, organizations, political sociology, social stratification, and European economic and political integration. He is currently working on a book about the financial crisis tentatively titled “The Banks Did It”. Neil Fligstein is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow, a fellow of the Center of Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Palo Alto, and a fellow at the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio.

 Dr. Yolande E. Chan

Information Systems

Yolande E. Chan is E. Marie Shantz Professor of IT Management at Queen’s University. She holds degrees from Western University (Ivey Business School), Oxford University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a Rhodes Scholar. Prior to joining Queen's, Dr. Chan worked with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in Toronto. Dr. Chan conducts research on digital strategy, digital innovation, and knowledge strategies, and has published her research in leading journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, and MIS Quarterly Executive. Dr. Chan is a JSIS Senior Editor and sits on the editorial boards of Information Systems Journal and other leading journals. She has received teaching excellence awards. Dr. Chan is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). She is a past AIS Secretary. At Queen’s, she has served as Associate Vice-Principal (Research) and as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Leader. She has also served as Director, The Monieson Centre. Currently, Dr. Chan is Queen’s Academic Colleague to the Council of Ontario Universities and serves on the National Board of the Canadian Information Processing Society.

Dr. Myrtle Bell

Gender & Diversity

Myrtle P. Bell is Professor of Management at the University of Texas at Arlington. Her research focusing on diversity and inclusion, social issues, and human resources appears in outlets such as Academy of Management Journal; Academy of Management Learning & Education; Journal of Managerial Psychology; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Gender, Work & Organization; Journal of Applied Psychology; Human Resource Management; and in numerous edited volumes. Her book, Diversity in Organizations (Cengage), a comprehensive, research-based book for teaching diversity, is now in its third edition. An award-winning teacher, Bell has also received the Janet Chusmir service award from the Gender and Diversity in Organizations division of the Academy of Management. She has served as chair of GDO and a member of the Academy’s Board of Governors. She was twice named a top 100 Global Diversity Thought Leader by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has received the PhD Project’s Trailblazer Award.   

Dr. Henry Mintzberg

International Business

I have been an academic most of my working life. After receiving my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University in Montreal (1961), I worked in Operational Research at the Canadian National Railways, and then received a masters and doctorate from the MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston. In 1968, I returned to McGill, where I joined what is now called the Desautels Faculty of Management. I currently hold the Cleghorn Professorship of Management Studies. I devote myself largely to writing and research, over the years especially about managerial work, strategy formation, and forms of organizing. I have published about 170 articles and17 books. In 2004, I published Managers not MBAs, in 2007 Tracking Strategies, in 2013 Simply Managing, and in 2015 Rebalancing Society…radical renewal beyond left, right, and center, the implications of which are now my central focus. I am also completing a monograph entitled Managing the Myths of Health Care. I have worked for much of the past two decades, in collaboration with colleagues around the world, on developing new approaches to management education and development. The International Masters in Practicing Management has been running since 1996 and the International Masters for Health Leadership since 2006. Both are rather novel ways to help managers learn from their own experience. Out of this has come a management development enterprise called CoachingOurseves.com. A GROOC (MOOC for groups) called Social Learning for Social Impact ran in 2015, and will run again in 2017 under the title “On the earth, for the Earth."
